The aim of the trust managing Chaithanya Sight Foundation, is to provide Community Ophthalmic Services to poor people in the rural areas. These services include.
- Rural out reach eye camps to identify the diseases and providing treatment.
- Poor patient OPD in the hospital.
- Transporting patients to Base hospital for surgery.
- Providing free surgical/medical treatment for eye diseases especially free surgical treatment for cataract.
- Eye check up of school children.
- Conducting seminars, awareness programs on eye donation, prevention of blindness etc to NGOS, Anganwadi teachers etc.
- Promoting eye donation.
- Conducting elocution/painting competitions during eye donation fortnight for City School Children for the spread of awareness regarding eye donation
- Community ophthalmology screening programmes
The main work of Chithanya Sight Foundation is organizing out reach rural camps for identifying persons needing treatment of eye diseases, who are ignorant of the facilities for treatment or who can not afford afford or have access to them. Patients requiring further investigation or surgical treatment, are advised to come the base hospital for further management. Free Cataract Surgeries are offered to poor patients. Other surgeries/ treatment are offered at concessional rate and in really deserving cases free treatment is also given.
Another important activities of the Foundation is organizing awareness programs among General public regarding facilities for avoidable blindness, early detection and treatment for eye diseases that may cause blindness, the target group being social workers, Anganwadi teachers, school children etc.
Social Awareness Programme:
In addition we are conducting seminars, orientation classes, awareness programmers etc. to social workers, Anganwadi teachers etc. The aim of this project is to enable the social workers, teachers of pre school children etc, who have close contact with rural population, to identify people having visual incapacities and are not taking treatment due to ignorance or poverty.
Voluntary organizations like Nehru Yuvak Kendra, National Service Scheme,Help Ages of India, Youth clubs areas, Residential Associations etc have rendered help to us in organizing the seminars and conducting camps for poor patients.
School Health Scheme:
We are offering screening of school children for visual impairment. Children requiring treatment are advised to come to Chithanya Eye Hospital for further management. Treatment is offered at free/concessional rates to the children depending upon the financial capability of the parents. In fact we have covered children of all school of Attingal which was commended.
Sight Kerala
For educating the general public about eye diseases and treatment available and propagating the message of eye donation and avoidable blindness, the sight Foundation publish is a monthly titled “Sight Kerala”. Articles on eye diseases by ophthalmologists and other subjects of topical importance are published in this magazine. |
